From TV Guide: Latest gossip
Gossip Girl is, like, so hot right now.
The US cult hit about a group of spoilt, rich teenagers living in Manhattan’s Upper East Side has taken over teen TV where The OC left off.
With a designer handbag here, a bit of underage binge drinking there and more than a healthy dose of OMG’s, Gossip Girl rides the cusp of what’s cool among the trust-fund teenagers in New York’s most affl uent neighbourhood.
The latest resident in the heady world is former Buffy star Michelle Trachtenberg as Georgina Sparks, nemesis of the show’s lead character Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively.
Gossip Girl storylines often revolve around the spread of gossip via mobile phones.
It’s a subject Trachtenberg knows plenty about.
“It was funny,” she says.
“The second it was announced I joined the show I got more emails and texts than what I got for my birthday. They were like, ‘Oh my god, that’s my favourite show’, and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, where were you when it was my birthday?’.”
Trachtenberg is 22, but given she’s been acting since she was a toddler and is best friends with socialite Lydia Hearst, she’s almost a veteran when it comes to surviving life in the public eye.
“I keep my real-friend circles very small and very intimate,” she says.
“So the people in my inner circle always know about info (like Gossip Girl) before it breaks to the outside world, but you definitely get the hangers on, who are like, ‘Oh my god, you look so fabulous. Let’s go out every night’.
“You’ve just got to take it with a grain of salt. Naivety is not a good personality trait to have in this business.”
